Solid State MOS (H2S) Detcon's unique and patented sensor for the detection of hydrogen sulfide gas. The most robust sensor on the market. Supported by a 10 year conditional warranty. Impervious to high moisture and high range concentrations of H2S and other acid gases. Method of Detection is by diffusion/ adsorption. Air and gas diffuse through a sintered stainless steel filter and contact the heated surface of the metal oxide sensor film. As Hydrogen Sulfide gas reacts with oxygen ions on the film, there is a decrease in electrical resistance proportional to the gas concentration. The heater film elevates the temperature of the sensor film creating convection and promoting a quick response to changing gas concentrations. This heater film is electronically controlled to maintain a constant temperature at the sensor film, thus enhancing stability and repeatability, and eliminating the need for temperature compensation of the output. The sensor response is reversible and results in continuous monitoring of ambient air conditions. |

Catalytic Detectors (non-selective combustible gases) Proprietary poison resistant catalytic detector beads for the detection of combustible gas in the lower explosive limit ranges (LEL). Detector life expectancy is 3 to 5 years and is supported by a 2 year warranty. Method of detection is by diffusion/adsorption. Air and gas diffuse through a sintered stainless steel filter and contact both the active and reference detector beads. The heated surface of the active detector promotes oxidation of the combustible gas molecule while the reference detector serves to maintain zero stability over a wide range of environmental conditions. When the combustible gas molecules are oxidized on the active detector, incremental heat is generated and its resistance changes. Changes in resistance is accurately measured using a Wheatstone bridge circuit. |

Two Electrode Air Battery (Oxygen deficiency) Temperature compensated two-electrode air battery type cell for the detection of oxygen in the range of 0 to 25% by volume. A rugged plug-in replaceable sensor with a life expectancy of 2 years. Method of detection is by controlled rate of diffusion. Oxygen first diffuses through a sintered stainless steel filter and then through the sensor's gas permeable diffusion membrane. At the sensor's electrode/electrolyte interface, oxygen is reduced and a corresponding current is generated between the cathode and anode electrodes. The lead anode is converted to lead oxide as current flows through the sensor. The current output is an exactly linear function of the oxygen gas concentration. The quick response of the sensor results in continuous monitoring of ambient air or process oxygen conditions. |

Three Electrode Electrochemical Cells (toxic gases) Disposable electrochemical sensors for the detection and monitoring of a long list of toxic gases in a variety of industries. detection ranges from part-per-billion to several hundred parts-per-million gas concentrations. Life expectancy of up to 3 years. NH3, HCN, N02, N0, C0, H2S, S02, CL2, CL02, HCL, H2, PH3, HF, 03,VOCs and many more. Air and target gas diffuse through the diffusion barrier to reach the sensing electrode. the controlling circuit maintains an external voltage between the sensing and counter electrodes sufficient to drive the electrochemical reaction. the electrochemical reaction with the target gas generates a current flow between the sensing and counter electrodes. This circuit also provides a specific bias potential between the reference and the sensor electrodes in such a manner that no current flows between them. The quick response of the sensor results in continuous monitoring of ambient air conditions. |

Infrared Optical (hydrocarbon and carbon dioxide) A very compact plug-in optical detector assembly for the monitoring of combustible hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon dioxide (C02). Low power combustion, heated optical chamber, temperature compensated, long life expectancy and a 5 year warranty on the optical detector. IR sensors operate on the principle of infrared light absorption as a means to detect the presence of combustible hydrocarbon gases. The Detcon IR sensor uses a miniature plug-in optical detector in a stainless steel housing. The target gas diffuses through a sintered stainless steel flame arrestor and into an optical cavity. A lamp provides a cyclical IR radiation source that contacts two pyro-electric detectors. These "active and "reference" detectors each give an output that measures the intensity of of the radiation contacting their surface. The active detector is covered with a filter specific to the IR spectrum where hydrocarbons absorb the reference detector has a filter specific to the non-absorbing part of the IR spectrum. Hydrocarbon gases absorb a fraction of the IR radiation and the detector signal decreases. The reference detector remains unchanged in the presence of the target gas. The ratio of the active and reference detector signals is used to compute the gas concentration. By using the ratio, drift caused by changes in the lamp intensity or optic reflectivity is eliminated |

Series 700 intelligent sensor modules feature dual redundant outputs, a linear 4-20 maDC analogue signal and a Modbus RS-485 serial output. It is becoming increasingly important that safety systems meet the Safety Integrity Level (SIL) requirements of IEC 61508 and IEC 61511. The SIL rating can only be determined by considering the complete safety system. The Detcon 700 series sensor modules are designed with this in mind and feature a new and unmatched level of pre-emptive fault diagnostics. Application variables like input voltage range, operating temperature, maintenance schedule, detector reliability and output integrity are all monitored and reported via the 4-20 mA and RS 485 serial output. As a component of a SIL rated system, the Safe Failure Fraction (SFF) of Detcon Series 700 are designed to meet the requiremens of any SIL 2 rated system. |
