Float & Thermostatic Steam Traps Float and Thermostatic traps rely on the density difference between steam and water to operate. The float moves with the liquid level to modulate the valve in accordance with changing condensate loads. They offer the advantage of being able to work on very low pressures and respond very quickly to changing loads. By the nature of the materials of construction, they are usually a low cost solution. |

Inverted Bucket Steam Traps Inverted Bucket Steam Traps utilize the low density nature of steam to close the valve as steam enters the body. The steam forces an inverted bucket to rise, much like a hot air balloon, and effect the closure of the valve. To prevent binding in the event that air enters the bucket, a small bleed hole at the top of the bucket allows a small amount of steam to escape. |

Thermodynamic Disc Thermodynamic Steam Traps utilize the change in density of steam as it moves to a lower pressure. The change in density increases the velocity under the disc and draws the valve closed. TD traps do pass live steam in normal operation which makes the ideal for rotating steam drum applications. |
